As the name suggests engineered wood flooring is a manufactured product designed to counteract the inherent instability of solid wood, especially in response to humidity change. The numerous layers of wood are assembled so that the grain of each layer is at a right angle to those above and below and these crossed layers result in a finished product that is said to be up to 70% more stable than a solid wood floor.
Because of the construction engineered wood floors are not required to be either nailed or glued to the subfloor but can be floated which means that the floors are fixed to each other but not to the subfloor. This is extremely important if one wishes to incorporate an acoustic underlay in the installation.
Another great advantage of an engineered floorboard is that, provided the manufacturers guidelines are adhered to, they can be installed over under floor heating and therefore compliment todays “modern living”. Please note that some species are not, for various reasons, compatible with UFH and our staff will be happy to advise in this matter.
